Fun Summer Activities: Activity Pages for Kids, Teens, and Adults
Warmer summer days are getting closer, and it really gives me motivation to draw — especially cute coloring pages!
In this blog post you'll find different printable summer-themed coloring pages and word searches. They are perfect for not only kids but adults as well! Who doesn't love relaxing on a rainy or sunny day and coloring adorable characters and solving puzzles?
Bold and easy — simple summer-themed coloring pages
Bold and easy coloring books and pages have become extremely popular. People of all ages and skill levels love them for their simple and usually very cute designs.
These coloring pages have bolder lines; therefore, it is much easier to color them without going over the line art. They are also excellent for kids and for those who are at the beginning of their coloring journey.
People often use markers with these types of coloring pages. Alcohol markers can bleed over the lines, so thicker line art is a big help when trying to prevent that. The paper type also plays a huge role in how the markers behave.
I’ve tried coloring with markers on many different papers, and so far Canson’s XL Bristol paper (smooth, 180 g/82 lb) has been my favorite. You can find tons of paper recommendations on YouTube as well!
One awesome thing about coloring with alcohol markers is that you can easily add details on top of them with a different art medium. I usually use colored pencils to help with gradients and shading. Gel pens are great for highlights and sparkle effects.
If you want to add backgrounds to these bold and easy coloring pages, they don’t have to be too detailed and complicated. Simpler and lighter backgrounds keep the viewers' focus on the main character/object. For example, the ice cream cone that I colored digitally has a very simple pastel background.
Floral mandala coloring pages
A lot of adults love mandala coloring pages. It is so much fun to come up with different color palettes for each mandala and to see the end result. If you have never tried to draw a mandala before, I highly recommend that you give it a try! I got a little carried away and now I have a folder full of mandalas. I picked five designs that include both easy and more intricate mandalas for you to color!
Three summer-themed word searches
Easy: a smaller word search with shorter and easier words such as “sea,” “sun,” “biking,” and “baseball.”
Medium: a slightly larger word search that has more words to find and features longer words
Difficult: 20 long words that are placed horizontally, vertically, and diagonally
