Free Butterfly Coloring Pages and Ideas on How to Color Them

A few years ago I drew some butterfly coloring pages for my previous blog. It is summer, so I thought it would be the perfect time to share some of them with you!

I picked a couple of simple and challenging designs and came up with some ideas on how to color them.

You can find the download link for the five free butterfly coloring pages at the bottom of this blog post.

Analogous color scheme

Analogous colors are a group of colors that can be found next to each other on the color wheel. The example below was colored with the following three colors: yellow, yellow-green, and green.

Grayscale

Simple but fun! Just grab a regular pencil and start coloring! Graphite pencils are also an excellent option.

Color inspiration from nature

Nature is full of wonderful colors. You can look up photos of flowers, leaves, fruits, real butterflies, and animals to get a nice color palette for your coloring pages.

The colors for the butterfly on the left were inspired by a flower called African Daisy. The colors for the orange butterfly on the right were inspired by fire.

Monochromatic or silver and gold

Keep it simple and use only one color, blue, for example.

The silver/grey and gold color palette is perfect for those who love gel pens! Some colored pencils have gold and silver colors too.

Sunset and landscapes

Here’s an interesting idea: try making landscapes, different skies, or galaxies on the butterflies’ wings.

You can look for more color palette inspiration on Pinterest or use a color palette generator, such as Coolors. I have also made this blog post that is full of different color palettes. I feel like when it comes to butterflies, you can’t go wrong with any color combination.

I hope these ideas will help you experiment with different colors and encourage you to try something new!
